patchwork

PatchWork is a community quilting project for folks of all ages to share food, stories, skills, and resources.

The quilts we create together are an essential piece of Shell performances.  

PatchWork is a community art project created by 4 generations of Upper Valley residents over the course of 8 months of quilting bees (2025-26), during which we shared skills, materials, food and stories. The resulting quilt, POTLUCK, is made entirely of donated fabric, many pieces of which carry memories and family connections beyond the Upper Valley, reaching across the nation and around the world.

Deep thanks to our partners for making this quilt possible: AVA Gallery, LISTEN Community Services, rePlay Arts, Lebanon Public Library, Hartford Memorial Middle School, Harvest Hill at Alice Peck Day Hospital, and Mascoma Bank. I am especially grateful to the Northern Lights Quilt Guild, whose members guided our quilting at every step of the process with joy and patience. Our work together culminated in a joyful art party in Lebanon’s rail trail tunnel in June 2026, with 200 participants and many more partners, including Lebanon ArtWays, Lebanon Opera House, and Claremont Savings Bank.

Thank you to the 60+ folks who brought this quilt to life, whether you shared fabric, taught us to sew, arranged quilt squares, offered childcare, baked cakes, gave rides to neighbors or joined us to chat and drink tea.
